full moon in capricorn- 7/1/15

by | Jun 29, 2015 | Lunar Insight

the full moon in capricorn is exact on wednesday july 1st 2015 at 7:19pm PDT. this marks the midpoint of the lunar cycle we are in that began with the new moon in gemini on june 16th. that new moon was conjunct mars and this full moon is opposite mars- so there’s a decidedly maritan vibe playing out during this lunar cycle. the positive side of mars is taking action and moving forward in life! yet the shadow side is that unconsciously expressed mars can manifest as arguments, conflict, violence and selfishness- so being aware and navigating this full moon with care is key!

this full moon PACKS A PUNCH- there’s just no way to get around that. first off all the sun/moon opposition straddles the signs of cancer and capricorn- archetypal Mother and archetypal Father. both signs tend to focus on safety and security- although cancer tends to want it more inwardly and in regards to home/family/nourishment while capricorn wants it outwardly in regards to status, money and power. since full moons bring to Light that which is Unconscious we can find fears around security and safety coming up at this full moon. pluto is conjunct the moon and mars is conjunct the sun- bringing the Higher Will and lower will intimately into the mix. the can help us to take action, take a stand and get things moving in our lives- but when expressed in excessive ways the will can be conflict-oriented, violent, impulsive, selfish and explosive. mars rules anger and war and pluto rules the powers that be and darker forces- so as you can see the potential for this full moon to be dark is definitely there. but everything has a Light and shadow- and the positive side of this lunation expresses itself when we are ready, willing and able to face things we don’t want to face and take action instead of sitting on the sidelines in a passive, victim, deny/avoidance stance.

a powerful Grand Cross formation is formed in the full moon chart with pluto on the moon, mars on the sun and all of these bodies square the nodes of the moon (the most exact square is mars to the nodes which will be exact on thursday, a day after the full moon). when planets are square the nodes we are brought to pivotal points of choice in our evolution. pluto squared the nodes in january of this year, the sun squared the nodes last week saturday (6/27) and mars does so tomorrow. all of these squares are seen in the full moon chart- reminding us that this time in our lives, personally and collectively, is a incredibly signifiant. with the south node ruled by mars- the pull towards old paradigm thinking and acting can be high. arguing, vying for control, being passive aggressive (mars in cancer is famous for it) and even violence is the shadow expression of mars. the north node in libra, the sign of venus- reminds us that to evolve we must work together, compromise, collaborate and find common ground to walk on with our fellow man (and with people in our personal lives).

luckily the ruler of the north node is venus and she is just coming out of auspicious conjunction with the Greater Benefic jupiter (exact early morning wednesday 7/1). this amazingly positive and powerful conjunction was trine to uranus last week- infusing the world with the energy of change and awakening (right when america finally made marriage equality legal nationwide). this is amazing energy and has much positivity- but we also have to remember that both venus and jupiter are also quincunx to chiron, the Wounded Healer (exact tuesday 6/30). the brighter the Light, the darker the shadow- and we all need to remember that often our greatest gifts get born out of our deepest wounds. this energy shows up in the full moon chart- reminding us that in order to move forward in one area of life we need to heal, complete and release the past in another. this is mirrored by the ruler of the full moon chart, saturn, at the very last karmic degree of scorpio (29 scorpio). the last degree of any sign points to completion, endings, wrapping up lessons so we can move on. saturn is navigating this last degree all summer long (he backtracked out of sadge on 6/14 and he stays in scorpio until 9/17). so pretty much the entire summer season has a focus on completing old karma, dealing with shadow and shit and purging and releasing what holds us back from our evolution. with the full moon in capricorn conjunct pluto (the ruler of scorpio) and saturn at 29 scorpio ruling this lunation- there is a strong energy of KARMIC COMPLETION happening right now. the more we get on board with this and start cleaning up our lives- the better. the more we try to deny, avoid and ignore this- the more intense the summer season will be (so take note).

the only harmonious aspect the full moon makes is to neptune in pisces- again a reminder to come from the Higher Heart and take action from a place of compassion for self and other. this does not mean to be a wet noodle and let people walk all over you though. sometimes the Higher Heart channels fierce Love! as marrianne williamson said on her Facebook feed today “There’s a difference between moral outrage and anger. Moral outrage isn’t born of anger; it’s born of love.” with both mars and pluto on this full moon- we all have the opportunity to rise up and meet our anger, rage and need to take action from a Higher, more loving place- out of which action taken will have powerful, positive and far-reaching results!

a few other things to take note of in the full moon chart include asteroid eros conjunct the sun and opposite the moon. eros is the greek god of love but his meaning goes beyond just sexuality and attraction, which is often what he tends to get limited to. eros is joie de vivre. it has to do with love or lust for life! our deepest passions are sourced from eros energy. eros is the life force behind ALL of our actions- sexual and otherwise. with eros involved with this lunation we have the potential to access deep reserves of passion and Love of life- but we have to be able to move through any anger or rage that is covering it up and twisting the expression of eros. pure passion lived is expressed through the dalai lama and his teachings! shadow passion covered in rage or anger is expressed when we bomb another country or when someone takes another life.

it is interesting to note that venus and jupiter are in lovely relationship but they are also both conjunct orpheus- an asteroid that speaks to the myth of a man who knew great loss and sorrow. out of this deep pain he birthed amazing poetry and music. he took his deepest wounds and pain and channeled them into his creativity in a way that impacted others! this mirrors the fact that both venus and jupiter are quincunx chiron. there is something new being seeded/being born but there is a tinge of sadness, loss and pain that is involved in the process. much like giving birth to a baby- a mother is both estatic about the new being coming in as well as moving through waves of pain and intensity as she navigates the birthing process. birth and death are intimately related to each other- and chiron in pisces with orpheus on venus and jupiter is a reminder of that.

in the background of all this we have both the moon and venus moving in slow motion compared to the other planets. this makes the feminine less active and puts the masculine in overdrive so-to-speak. we need balance though- as too much mars/pluto can create a war! we need moon and venus there to balance things out and remind us of our commonalty, connection and heart space. (and recall that moon is conjunct pluto/opposite mars, while venus is quincunx chiron- so there’s much going on with the feminine and our emotional bodies that needs to be cleared, purged, healed and released).

we also have pluto opposite sirius- the fixed star that is the Spiritual Sun of our sun. the actual sun will cojoin sirius on the 4th of july- the birthday of the USA. currently the USA is undergoing some major pluto transits- pluto opposite the sun and pluto square saturn. we are in a period of profound transformation but also a time where we need to acknowledge our shadow and atone for it. anytime an individual goes through a pluto transit something in their life goes through radical transformation and/or dies (metaphorically speaking- sometimes literally) so that something new can be born. the USA is in that process right now- and so is anyone who has planets at aries, cancer, libra or capricorn around 14-15 degrees of these signs. i have written a whole blog on pluto opposite sirius which can be found here (https://www.divineharmony.org/cosmic-insight-divine-harmony/divine-harmony-astrology-blog/pluto-opposite-sirius-sacred-lies-concealed-profane/)- but it is a good thing to remember that this energy reverberates through the entire year and is like the background music to everything else that is going on. opportunities to wake up and evolve are ripe right now! but this full moon in capricorn reminds us that we can only evolve and transform to the degree that we have let go of any limitations or restrictions from the past. a caterpillar cannot transform into the butterfly he is meant to be until he breaks out of the limitations of his chrysalis. it may SEEM safer to stay in the known- but at some point it becomes so limiting and stagnant the only real option is to evolve or die!

take time this week during this powerful full moon to get clear on what is ending in your life, what is beginning and what you need to do to consciously navigate the death that precedes rebirth process. you can close one door with consciousness and walk through another or you can stand in the hall beating your head against the past. it’s up to you! ;)
