solar eclipse at the omega point: navigating liminal spaces between past and future

i am posting the LUNAR INSIGHT on this total solar eclipse at 29 pisces on the public astrology blog for all to see. read on and set your intentions accordingly!

the eclipse portal is opening and commences with a powerful and potent total solar eclipse at the very last degree of pisces on march 20th, 2015 at 2:36am PDT- just a 1/2 a day before the sun moves into aries, which marks the equinox and the start of spring in the northern hemisphere (or start of fall in the south). this portal lasts all month long (the entire lunar cycle) and is followed by another total eclipse- this time a total lunar eclipse in libra on april 4th. with two total eclipses back to back- we have a very powerful eclipse cycle opening up which brings in with it some powerful and inevitable changes.

there are several things about this particular eclipse that make the opening of the eclipse portal so significant. first of all this eclipse is total- which means there will be a complete blocking out of the sun. total eclipses are not everyday experiences. we have many eclipses- 4 to 5 a year- several of which are partial or penumbral (meaning not total). when they are total they are more potent and powerful and they have much more influence. if you happen to live in europe you will get to see some of the eclipse, but the total portion of it will only be visible to those at the north pole. i read a science article online that said after 6 months of polar night (with the sun staying beneath the horizon all day long for 6 months)- the eclipse will be the day that the sun first appears in the sky and it will get fully eclipsed by the moon, which will bring a few minutes of darkness across the land. the ancients saw these total solar eclipses as incredibly significant- and if you can think back to those ancient times and put yourself in their shoes it should make a lot of sense. imagine going about your regular, ordinary day and all of a sudden the moon crosses over the sun and blocks out the sun’s light in the middle of the daytime. this would be quite ominous and foreboding- and considering only the learned ones who mapped the skies and knew of the cycles could predict these events, it would seem even more amazing and unexpected to the common people.

another reason this eclipse is so powerful is it is at the very last degree of pisces (29’27 pisces), also known as the omega degree. the 1st degree of aries is the alpha point and 29 pisces is the omega point. they represent the start of the zodiac (1 aries) and the end of the zodiac (29 pisces)- and they are points of initiation and completion, beginnings and endings. since solar eclipses are amplified new moons (when the sun and moon are conjunct) we have an image of major new beginnings (new moon energy) that are predicated on huge cycles of endings and completion of the past (29 pisces). last month’s new moon was at 29 aquarius- and it was a very powerful lunation. this one looks to be even more significant as it’s an eclipse, which amplifies the new moon energy (some say solar eclipses are equal to 6 new moons!).

approximately half a day after the total solar eclipse the sun moves out of the last degree of pisces and into the first degree of aries (at 3:45pm PDT), shifting us from the omega point to the alpha point, the end of a cycle and season and beginning of another. equinoxes occur when day and night are equal and they are balancing points in the yearly cycle. for those of us in the northern hemisphere the march equinox is the midpoint between winter solstice and summer solstice- and it shifts us into the part of the year where the sun is increasing in Light (meaning the days grow longer) which marks the start of spring. it’s the reverse in the south, the march equinox is actually the midpoint between summer solstice and winter solstice and it shifts them into the part of the year where the sun is decreasing in Light (with the days growing shorter) which marks the start of fall. because equinoxes are balancing points they are times to tune into how we balance Light and shadow, outer focus and inner focus in our personal and collective lives. everything in the natural world is cyclic- what is born must die, what awakens must go to sleep, what grows must be pruned. equinoxes are times to tune into the balance of life- of yin and yang, inward and outward, death and birth- so that we can give thanks for all aspects of experience, knowing that they are all apart of the experience of Wholeness. (a good meditation on this concept is the wheel of fortune card in the tarot or arianrhod’s silver wheel)

there are several things of significance in the solar eclipse chart that are worth taking note of. the first being the sun/moon conjunction (and eclipse of) the fixed star scheat. scheat is one of four significant stars that make up the pegasus constellation (there are more than four stars total in this constellation but there are four that are seen as the main ones that enclose the body of the flying horse). when researching this constellation i happened upon this information on rich’s pegopedia regarding the pegasus syndrome:

“The Pegasus Syndrome, as exemplified in the legends of Perseus and Bellerophon, is concerned with the innate ability possessed by some people to negotiate difficulties by rising above them, on the one hand, and the danger of overreaching themselves, on the other. Pegasus by birth, is the child of Medusa and Neptune, symbols of ‘wisdom’ and ’emotion,’ respectively, which shows the dichotomy of his nature. As in the story, Bellerophon attempted to fly to Olympus (overreach his potential). He believed that Pegasus was subject to his will. However, it was Pegasus who made it to Olympus, while Bellerophon was tossed back to earth, lame and reproached by others. It is unwise to take any situation for granted as the ‘lesser’ person (or, in this case, beast) may be the very one to teach us the much needed lesson in humility. Pegasus is also indicative of a specific mission in life which the inquirer will always find the time and energy to pursue, although the path may be sewn with difficulties (the Chimaera) and limitations (Bellerophon’s doubt or arrogance). So, the Pegasus Syndrome is the seeming ability to “fly over any situation,” though the reverse may be a lesson in humility, being “taken down a peg,” as it were.” [Rich’s Pegopedia http://thanasis.com/pegasus.htm].

this pegasus syndrome can be a prominent theme at the time of this solar eclipse and in the next 6 months (which is the duration of the eclipses’ affect). we can be given a much Higher perspective of situations which enables us the ability to rise above and transcend difficult situations- but it can also bring us lessons about humility and not just spiritually bypassing or thinking we are better than others and that we are beyond reproach. ultimately the resolution of these two energies is to find ways to rise above while still being grounded, connected to reality and wiling to do the work required of us. being able to experience and understand both our animal nature and our Divine Nature, our profane aspects and our sacred ones is part of the teaching of this eclipse.

this energy is mirrored in the overarching transit of saturn in sagittarius square neptune in pisces. neptune is the ruler of this lunation and he is square saturn all year long and throughout next year (2016). saturn is the root chakra, neptune is the crown chakra. saturn is 3D reality, neptune is otherworld realities. saturn is about dealing practically with restrictions, neptune is about transcending limitations via intuition, dreams and the Spirit world. saturn square neptune is a great transit for anchoring our dreams into reality and taking our ideals and making them real. but it’s also a transit of spiritual crisis where the conflict between reality and dreams comes into stark focus. we have to be willing to straddle the razor’s edge with these two- as going too far in either direction can result in depression, apathy, lack of vitality and/or addiction (which is a means to escape dealing with the oppressiveness that reality brings with it).

luckily the solar eclipse is trine saturn, helping us to find grounding and practicality as we navigate the path of pursuing our dreams and spiritual path. sun and moon in pisces has high ideals- but it’s saturn who is going to help us make those ideals become a reality. what we set into motion at the time of this solar eclipse has endurance and staying power! so it’s a great time to set intentions and get super clear on what we are calling in in the next 6 months of this year (until fall equinox).

one last thing of importance i want to share is the sabian symbol for 29 pisces. at the last new moon on february 18th i wrote about the sabian symbol for 29 aquarius as being one of the most esoteric, occult and deep of the entire 360! well 29 pisces is right up there with 29 aquarius and it is worth contemplating (like a koan). the sabian symbol for 29 pisces is:

“A majestic rock formation resembling a face is idealized by a boy who takes it as his ideal of greatness, and as he grows up, begins to look like it. Eventual concrete manifestation of all higher poetic images and enduring truths of the race. Sure culmination of effort.” (from the book ‘the astrology of personality’). in this image we see the IDEAL, something that is not yet real. but something that is taken on as a guiding force which sets something into motion. because this boy takes on this ideal and works to grow into it- over time he starts to become that which he idealizes/dreams/envisions. this is ultimately what the saturn/neptune square is all about! “eventual concrete manifestation” comes by way of joining neptune’s ideals, dreams and vision with saturn’s discipline, hard work and practicality. this aspect is about bridging worlds: the sacred and the profane, the mystical and the mundane. and the Highest use of the saturn/neptune square over the next 2 years is to work to find this liminal space between the two- both personally and collectively.

with this neptune-ruled solar eclipse trine saturn- the saturn/neptune square is a guiding force for this lunation. so taking time to ponder your deepest held dreams that come from the Soul and the bridge you will need to work hard to create so that you can bring those dreams and ideals into physical manifestation is key.

taking time to meditate, reflect, introspect and dream during the dark moon and new moon solar eclipse is recommended! for more information on where/how this eclipse impacts you personally check the weekly horoscopes that will be posted sunday night/monday morning the latest (march 15th or 16th).

eclipse portal blessings to you all!
