the second new moon in aquarius (which is an astrological black moon and also a seasonal black moon which is the 3rd new moon in a season with 4 new moons) is exact on wednesday, feburary 18th 2015 at 3:47pm PST. this especially potent new moon is not only at the last degree of aquarius but it is in the last MINUTE (29’59 aquarius)- with the moon moving into pisces less than a minute later and the sun following suit three minutes after the lunation. the last degree of any sign is a point of culmination, fruition and completion. considering this is the second new moon in aquarius following the first one that was at the very first degree of aquarius on january 21st- this whole last month has been a huge time of endings preceding new beginnings and entire karmic cycles that are deeply embedded in our personal and collective Unconscious have been coming up for review, revision or release.
the sabian symbol for the last degree of aquarius is one of the most profound in the entire 360 degrees. the koan for 29-30 aquarius is “deeply rooted in the past of a very ancient culture, a spiritual brotherhood in which many individual minds are merged in the glowing light of a unanimous consciousness is revealed to one who has emerged successfully from his metamorphosis”. WOW! this very powerful degree speaks to something very ancient and something very profound- and in this new moon we each can get in touch with a deeper level of what this means for us personally and collectively. wherever you are at on your path- this new moon meets you there and can take you further. it’s definitely a new moon to connect to, do ceremony around and work with the solar and lunar energies present. a whole new world can open up to you if you choose to take the leap into the unknown!
another variation of meditations on the zodiac degrees is by elias lonsdale and can be found in his text ‘star sparks’. i have quoted them before as i find them to be very deep and powerful- and i often prefer them to the typical sabian symbols. his meditation for this degree is several paragraphs long (to read the entire meditation find it at the end of this article), but to sum it up in a few sentences this meditation is about being flooded with Light to an extraordinary extent. and the key is to stay connected to that Light while still being able to be aware of the shadow and have compassion for those who are lost in it. “we are called to be mightily detached, yet in the same breath able to swoop right down and be entirely here with how everybody experiences the darkness and the sense of forgetting. for as we hold the high vertical steadily yet yield it’s righteousness to the need that arises, we become light bearers in terms that are life-giving and fruitful in total measure. we learn to be empty and simple, and then the light streams through with no self-importance anywhere in sight.” so this powerful 29th degree aquarius new moon is all about anchoring in the Light but not doing it in a way to escape, deny or ignore the shadow. we do so that we can illuminate the shadow and help heal the rift and duality in ourselves and the world around us. this is not so much about ascension as it is about decension. it’s about fully embodying our Light and our humanity- and as we do this for ourselves we contribute to the collective healing of the split in the world around us.
there are several significant aspects to take note of in the new moon chart. the new moon is exactly semisextile to mars at the very last degree of pisces- the omega point. he shifts into the first degree of aries- the alpha point- the very next day and venus will follow suite the day after. both venus and mars are heading into a very auspicious conjunction in the first degrees of aries, exact on saturday the 21st, opening up a lot of creative, passionate, eros energy (which is about Love of life, not just physical lust and sexual passion). with both venus and mars in aspect to this new moon (with mars being almost exact)- we have the Divine Lovers channeling their fertile, passionate and creative energy into this lunation. we have the power to birth something at this new moon- be it a new life, a new direction in our lives, a baby, a creative project or a new awareness personally and collectively. we have the visionary capacity of aquarius teamed with the compassionate, altruistic energy of pisces. the last two signs of the zodiac are most concerned with the plight of humanity and are focused on raising consciousness and realizing Oneness with all that is. these very huge energies are available to us now and they can come through in strong or subtler ways- but regardless of how they show up, they are most definitely there (and worth tapping into).
the new moon also activates the saturn/neptune square and the uranus/pluto square. the new moon is heading into conjunction with neptune and is square to saturn (the sun will trigger both from february 23rd-25th). this brings up the disparity between dreams and reality, ideals and what is actually manifesting today. this is an aspect of spiritual crisis but also spiritual mastery. ultimately it’s about bridging worlds- being of this world but not of it and taking our visions and dreams and anchoring them into 3d reality. of course it’s a square so there’s also a need to see what is not working and what is not real so that we can see the shadow, address it and deal with it on its own terms.
with the new moon semisquare both uranus and pluto, the sun/moon conjunction is the midpoint of the uranus/pluto square. this brings significant focus to the breakdowns and breakthroughs playing out in our personal lives as well as globally and collectively. uranus rules this lunation (uranus rules aquarius)- so the focus is on liberation, freedom, letting go of the past and breaking free from ties that bind. with pluto in capricorn- we are being asked to face limitations, restriction, obligations and institutions that no longer serve our growth and actually severely inhibit our ability to move forward. it’s time to take down those structures, let go of those ideas, end those relationships or change the directions in life that hold us back from the evolution we seek!
it’s interesting to note that this lunation has two ruling planets- saturn, the ancient ruler of aquarius, and uranus the contemporary ruler. both of them are involved in potent square aspects with outer planets and both of them aspect the new moon! this brings two very polarized focuses front on center: how to bridge the mundane world (saturn) with the spiritual world (neptune) and how to know when to let go (uranus) and when to hang on and/or transform something (pluto). these themes are up big time this year and they are encoded in the new moon chart- so contemplating where you are on the spectrum of both and what you need to do to find greater balance and the perfect middle point for YOU (not for anyone else, but for you) is key.
a few other important things to take note of in the new moon chart: there are several powerful fixed stars activated. the sun and moon conjunction are opposite the royal fixed star Regulus, who just precessed into the first degree of virgo in 2012. this activates and illuminates the shift of power and leadership from solar, masculine, ego-centered to earthy, feminine, humble and service-oriented. instead of leading because we want to be seen and powerful or because we are put on a pedestal- leadership needs to come from a place of being in service to something Greater, as well as coming from a feminine awareness of how we are all interconnected and life does not thrive when it is based on a pyramid scheme of a few at the top and way too many at the bottom. this summer both jupiter and venus retrograde will activate this first degree of virgo- so there will be more to come on this very important topic! two other very important fixed stars show up in the chart- Sirius and Vega- and they both link up with pluto (Vega is conjunct pluto, Sirius is opposite pluto). Sirius speaks to making the mundane sacred and Vega is a very mystical star relating to charisma and magic. both of these stars are important to ancient cultures and have sacred stories told about them where Highly evolved beings (aka aliens) have come from these star systems down to earth to help us evolve and grow in consciousness. both of these stars speak to Higher Consciousness and the Light that comes from them (spiritually more so than physically) is directly related to what elias lonsdale said in his meditation on 29 aquarius- we are being flooded with Light to a extraordinary extent. with pluto, the planet of transformation, empowerment, death and rebirth involved- we have a very powerful archetype channeling that flood of Light into our galaxy. it’s good to remember that breakdowns precede breakthroughs- so if you want illumination you have to withstand the heat of the alchemical fires!
this powerful new moon can initiate many things- and it up to us to set our intentions and choose the direction we want to head into. new moons are like seeds, they need to be planted and fertilized and tended to with care. the potential inherent in a new moon is not fully made manifest if we do nothing with it- or if we start to do something with it and then we do not follow through. so take time during the days before this new moon, during the dark moon, to get clear about what you are ready to release and what you are ready to call in and what you are ready, willing and able to do about it! the realizations possible at this new moon and the things set into motion during the upcoming lunar cycle are huge. but they will only be revealed in their fullness to “one who has emerged successfully from his/her metamorphosis”. so don’t stay stuck in the birth canal! come out to the Light to be reborn!

Light is the spirit food which permeates the ethers of the planet with all that we need to grow and evolve. It is a signal, a direct emanation of that sense that there is so much more where this came from. To inhale light in abundance is to be greatly blessed, honored, shown the way.
We become vessels for the light. The pouring through of sparkling warmness into every corner of life is our attunement, our realization, our meditation. Just to be able to serve, to tap what is here becomes the way to go. For we know it is so much brighter and vast than we can perceive as yet.
Because it is endless and because our future sense is wide open, we are literally being flooded with light to an extraordinary extent. Just to forge this into something useful and helpful is quite a task. For there is this bliss or infinite stretch involved. Can we give of this feeling tone, this subtle atmosphere, this prana to those who find themselves to be cut off from its bounty?
